About the project

Supplemental Health Care (SHC) struggled with an outdated job application system — a vital part of its staffing operations. The process was overly long and confusing, leading to high drop-off rates and reducing the pool of qualified candidates available to healthcare clients.

Findings

Simplifying text and clarifying errors

We reduced on-screen text to improve readability and placed clear, specific error messages directly beneath each form field. Previously, vague messaging and poor placement left users confused and unsure how to fix input errors.

Clear completion feedback

After submitting the application, users had no confirmation it was finished. We introduced a completion screen that congratulates them and outlines the next steps, giving users clarity and closure.

Breaking forms into manageable steps

We introduced a linear flow by grouping related fields and splitting the form into smaller sections. This reduced cognitive load, minimized distractions, and made data entry faster and easier for users.

Conclusion

By reviewing session recordings in FullStory, we gathered both quantitative and qualitative insights that revealed pain points traditional methods might have missed. This gave us a deeper understanding of user behavior and areas for improvement.

It may seem obvious, but too often designs are created without involving actual end-users. To build effective experiences, we must always design for their needs rather than relying on our own assumptions.
